Giving Jessica Opportunity
"The people at Bosma - they know - when your self-esteem is low and reassure you that you are doing great - even if it's everyday."At 25 years old, Jessica worked full-time while raising three young sons. Jessica had frequent migraines that put repeated pressure on her optic nerves. One day, the pressure became too high and destroyed the function of her optic nerves. Unable to return to her work, Jessica knew that she needed to learn new skills in order to re-enter the work force. Bosma gives her the opportunity and resources to help develop these skills. “I don’t know how to put it in words. Bosma is showing me that I’m very capable of doing anything a sighted person can – there are just alternate ways to do it.” Bosma helped to provide Jessica with free access to counseling, training, rehabilitation and job placement service in order for her to find employment. With the right help and resources, Jessica was recently hired by her internship site, and will continue receiving guidance from the Rehabilitation Center on another goal – obtaining her GED. “I didn’t think I’d ever get my GED and now I believe that I will. They give me one-on-one time, materials to study from, practice quizzes and tests, and keyboard training. Most importantly, they gave me their support.” Bosma is determined to improve the lives of those who are blind or visually impaired – it’s more than just a mission to us, it’s our passion. Our clients see this every-day. “The people at Bosma – they know – they know when your self esteem is low and reassure you that you are doing great – even if it’s everyday.” |
